Frequently Asked Questions

I work with my kind of people! Those are the Alternative crowd, Geeks and Sci-Fi lovers, and LGBTQ+.
For everyone I offer family shoots, couple shoots, solo portraits, headshots and gig / event work.
For Alternative people I also offer band / solo artist shoots with additional licencing rights.
For Geeks & Sci-Fi lovers I can offer additional editing to add more imagination to their images.

I currently don’t have a studio. I do however have lighting gear for low light scenarios and artistic creativity. I also have portable backdrops for headshots.

Come have a blether with me! You can use the contact page to express your interest and we can take it from there. We’ll find a date suitable for you and book you in.

I usually do outdoor photoshoots and I’m very open to your suggestions. If you have a certain vision in mind that needs a specific type of location, we’ll have a think about where is suitable. Some locations may need permission first, so I will endeavour to get that prior to confirming a space which is on private land.

Sure! With most of my photoshoots you will have 2 sums to pay. The first is a session fee, this covers my time planning a shoot, communicating with you, going to the location and taking the photographs. Soon after you will get a lightly edited, watermarked proofing gallery to view, and decide which photos you like. At this point you can pick between 3 packages I have listed with a budget to suit most people. You also have the choice to not buy any photos and pay no more. After you buy your package I’ll fully edit the photos you picked and send them to you once done.

A proofing gallery is a lightly edited version of all your good photos. The images are low res and watermarked for viewing purposes only. From this gallery you can pick your favourite photographs to fit whichever package you decide to buy. I will then fully edit your choices and get these images to you as soon as I’m finished.

Yes. Your session fee is your retainer / deposit.

Retainers / deposits are non-refundable. This covers my time communicating with you, planning for the shoot, and the time slot being taken up for your session where I could have booked in someone else.

You can cancel your photoshoot and the package will be refunded in full if paid, however, the session fee is a retainer and will not be refunded.
If someone gets ill or life throws you lemons, I will allow a session to be moved to a different day if it’s at least 48 hours before the photoshoot is due to take place. The new date must be within 3 months of the original date.

I’ll happily cover travel costs for around 20 miles travel from Forfar. This covers most of Angus and Dundee. Due to my lower package costs, anything beyond 20 miles will cost 25p per mile each direction. For example, a photoshoot in Perth would be 30 miles from my home in Forfar, so that’s an extra 10 miles each way, costing £5 in travel.

None! I aim to be very transparent and have my prices very clearly listed under each genre, along with my travel costs. That is all there is.

Typical outdoor photoshoots last around 30 minutes. If it needs more consideration with lighting, it may take up to an hour. Band photoshoots may take slightly longer if they are very location based and require a certain look. I will try not keep you hanging around for longer than necessary, but I also don’t want you going home again without getting the best photos possible.

If you want your dog in your photoshoot, absolutely! I love dogs and they totally complete a family.

Errr sure? Best of luck with that! Lol.

We live in Scotland and the weather can be all over the place. I don’t think either of us are keen to go take photos in the rain or when it’s blowing a gale. I’m always watching the weather and I will advise if we need to consider moving the shoot to another day. If your photoshoot has been planned to include a certain type of weather (golden hour or gloomy, for example), we may have to move the day of the shoot too. This is a total pain for both of us! But I think we can agree that we want the best result for your photoshoot.

Absolutely! I am very up for you having a say in your photoshoot’s direction. If you have any ideas you want to try, send me over some examples and I will research that. This may be especially important for bands and those who have sci-fi costumes to wear.
Pinterest is a great website to create mood boards with the style of photo you are going for, and it visually lets me see what you are meaning.

I deliver digital images in an online client gallery. This will be passworded just for your access only.
Physical items like prints and keyrings will be fulfilled by the print house and will be delivered to your home once dispatched by them.

Each type of photography has a different turnaround time. Check the “What to Expect” part for the genre you are interested in to see. A normal portrait session will have a turnaround time or no more than 2 weeks, for example.

You do yes! I send lightly edited versions of all your good images in a proofing gallery first, and you can pick your photos from there. I will then fully edit the ones you want and get them over to you.

No. I put watermarks on the proofing gallery as these images are just for picking your photos and not for any other useage. All finished photos have no watermark.

I treble back up photo sessions for 6 months. A modern problem with digital images is that people lose them! I really encourage you to get photos backed up as soon as possible. I never delete a finished session, but if you want to try retrieve old photos from me, I cannot guarantee my backups of your photos from years ago will survive time (& technology).

I own the copyright of all photographs I take. You have the right to share and print your photos as often as you want. If the photos are to be used for profit, ie – on merchandise you plan to sell, then this needs a licence from me to do so at extra cost. Band photoshoots already come with this licence.

I’m afraid not. Raw photos are large files that have no editing, sharpening etc, and it’s very unlikely any photographer will give you these files.
Some people confuse raw photos with normal jpeg photos that have a basic edit. If you mean the basic jpeg photos, the answer is still no lol, but!... I may be open to negotiation for lightly edited photos that have no colour grading. I’m aware this usually means someone wishes to edit a photo themselves. This goes against most photographers rules and if this happens it must not be quoted as being my edit as it is not in my style.

All sessions come as standard with my right to use them for advertising. This is especially important as I’m a young business that needs to show my work so others can see what I do. However, I am also very sensitive to some people wishing for privacy. This may be especially important for anyone LGBTQ+ who doesn’t want to show the whole of Scotland photos with their loving partner when they might not be out yet.
So while I’d love to use your photos, you always have the option to say no.
